Privacy Policy
SplitGrid is an open-source (AGPLv3-licensed) workspace terminal manager. This policy explains what data SplitGrid and its optional cloud services collect, how it is used, and the choices you have.
By using SplitGrid, the SplitGrid web viewer, or signing in with Google, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.
Who we are
“SplitGrid”, “we”, “us” refers to the maintainers of the SplitGrid application and its associated services hosted at splitgrid.dev. You can reach us at support@splitgrid.dev.
What we collect
- Account information. When you sign in, we authenticate you through our identity provider (WorkOS) using Google Sign-In. From Google we receive your name, email address, and basic profile information (including your Google account identifier). We do not receive or store your Google password.
- Terminal output you choose to share. The optional streaming feature transmits the output of terminals you explicitly choose to share to your own authenticated browser sessions. This output is relayed in real time and held only transiently in memory (a short scrollback buffer) so a newly opened viewer can catch up. It is not written to disk and not stored in a database by our relay.
- Operational data. Our servers process basic technical information needed to run the service — such as IP address, connection timestamps, and error logs. Bearer tokens and session cookies are redacted from our logs.
The SplitGrid desktop application runs locally on your computer. Your terminals, files, SSH connections, and credentials stay on your machine and are never sent to us, except for the specific terminal output you choose to stream.
How we use your data
- To authenticate you and maintain your session.
- To route terminal output you have chosen to share to your own authenticated viewers.
- To operate, secure, and debug the service.
What we don't do
- We do not sell or rent your personal data.
- We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not run third-party advertising or tracking on our services.
- We do not use the contents of your terminals to train models or for any purpose other than delivering the streaming feature you enabled.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers to deliver the service:
- Google — sign-in (authentication).
- WorkOS — identity and session management.
These providers process data on our behalf in order to provide their functions and are bound by their own privacy commitments.
Data retention
Account information is retained for as long as your account exists with our identity provider. Streamed terminal output is transient and is discarded when your producer disconnects or the relay restarts; it is not retained after your session ends.
Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal data associated with your account by emailing support@splitgrid.dev. You can also revoke SplitGrid's access to your Google account at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
Security
Connections to our services are encrypted in transit (HTTPS/WSS). Access tokens are verified cryptographically, sessions are sealed, and viewers are read-only and scoped to your own account. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.
Children
SplitGrid is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
